Vehicle Description
2002 BMW 325iT Touring Sport Wagon for parts (or fix up). 5 speed manual, rear-wheel drive. Sport Package.
Decent shape but has been in storage. Has 220,000 miles but I've put in lots of new parts over the years (wiring harness, VANOS, struts and shocks, Meyle HD front control arms, rear bearings and bushings, headlight lenses, fuel pump, windshield).
I bought the car from the 2nd owner in the summer 2010 with 168k miles on it (original owner was a salesman in Vermont who worked in New York). It was my daily driver (averaging 9k miles per year) until I bought a Prius in fall 2015, at which point the BMW went into the garage. It was only driven a little bit for the next few months, and then went into hibernation inside my garage and has sat there for almost 4 years.
There was some rusting parts on the car when I put it in the garage. The front left fender had surface rust that I cleaned up and primed (I have a can of BMW Steel Blue spray paint too). The only spot that had rusted through was the rear passenger fender (front edge of wheel well) and I patched that as well. The patches aren't perfect, but they're decent. Of course there's small spots of surface rust in other spots (right front fender, passenger door, and rear hatch). I believe the under body is solid and it has been stored inside for the past 4 years. If you want to inspect it for yourself, you'll have to bring a floor jack since mine doesn't lift very high.
The engine, clutch and brakes are all in good shape. The battery was dead since it hadn't been started in almost 4 years while in storage, but when I got a new battery and turned the key the engine started right up and I backed the car out of the garage. The traction control light is on and there is a slight tick that I don't remember - not sure if it's a bad omen or not. The clutch is ORIGINAL but has never given me any issues (I've always wanted to replace it). The brakes are newer but have a lot of surface rust because the car's been stored for so long - I think they will clean up with use. Other than the rust, the only issue I know of is the oil level sensor needs to be replaced the next time the oil is changed (I have the part and it's supposed to be an easy job - screwed into the underside of the oil pan). As far as I know, the car should be roadworthy, but it's not registered so I cannot take it out on the road. Overall this is a good car and I loved driving it, but since it's been sitting in my garage for 4 years and I can't swear there won't be some issues, I'm only asking $1,000. That should leave you plenty of budget to fix anything that might come up.
