Vehicle Description
My wife and I are selling our blue in color 2002 Pontiac Sunfire. The car has been very reliable for us, for the most part. I have had to replace the fuel pump within the past year, but aside from that, the car did really well for us. That being said, it is very clearly a beater with a heater for the commute to work this winter, or a good starter car for someone just learning to drive. We had originally planned to keep the car as a backup vehicle, but then our schedules changed around to the point where only one vehicle is needed, and so the Sunfire is just sitting here collecting dust. We need to get rid of it, however, as the sensitive people in our apartment complex have filed complaints about it just sitting here and causing them to park a few extra feet away from the door and walk those extra steps. The car is being sold as-is, as with any other beater vehicle on Craigslist.
The Good:
-The car gets very good highway gas mileage thanks to the 4-cylinder engine
-It has been very reliable while we were driving it, and we have not had to replace much at all.
-The car has a sunroof
-It has plenty of trunk space
-The front brakes were replaced within the past year.
-It has been sitting for months, but still runs just fine (though will need a jump now, as the battery is losing juice).
-It's not unbelievably loud like most beaters being sold on craigslist are.
The Bad:
-The passenger side rear tire is completely shot and will not hold air. You will need to either get another tire or it will need to be towed out.
-The driver side front tire still holds air, but was showing a slow leak as the car was sitting, to the point of being completely flat. I filled this tire back up yesterday and so far the air has not leaked out again.
-There is currently no power steering. I believe this is due to a massive fluid leak rather than broken parts, but I am unable to find the source of the leak currently. I was driving the car for a while without the power steering. It's a bit tougher to steer, but most certainly doable.
-Because it was being used as just a beater for the commute to work, the car has been smoked in, and I've accidentally burned a hole into the driver seat with a cigarette.
-The A/C, although it works, sometimes causes a god-awful rattling in the engine compartment that gets louder with acceleration. I never really took the time to look into why this is. I typically don't use the AC, and just drive with the windows down.
-This is a minor issue, but sometimes the digital odometer/tripometer display bugs out and you have to give it a little knock to get it to display properly again.
The Ugly:
-The body is rusty and in need of a paint job.
I'll mention again that this car is just a beater. If you come out here expecting to find a pot of gold, you're going to be incredibly disappointed, but if you're looking for a cheap, decently reliable car (once a few things are fixed) that you can beat the heck out of without feeling guilty, then this is the car for you. Come take a look! I am asking 600 o.b.o., but if you intend to make a lowball offer, please don't waste our time.
Side note: I figured that I wouldn't need to say this, as this late in the craigslist game it's almost a guarantee, but I was proven wrong. I am only accepting in-person, cash offers. No, I will not accept a check that isn't going to clear the bank. No, I will not spend nearly the entire value of the car to ship it across the country or internationally. First person who shows up here with the cash in hand takes the car.
