Vehicle Description
Hello, I bought this car from the second owner in Edina in 2015. I got it as something I could make nice and also run autocross. I drive it regularly the summers or 2015, 2016 and 2017. In the Fall of 2017 I got into the car and the starter clicked but the engine wouldn't turn. Looking under the car, the starter was not engaged or locked up. I pulled the plugs and belts and could not get it to turn with a bar on the front crank bolt. My mechanic believes the main bearing spun. I planned to get a new long block put in but it has now been two summers and that's my limit for something sitting around not getting done. The dash is nice and no cracks. The digital dash had all the bulbs replaced by the previous owner and it works perfectly. The driver's door panel is loose and will need either a new top part of the door panel or a couple screws. Electric windows work. The car has a Greenwood body kit which I believe was put on when the car was new. It also has window tinting that is showing it's age but ok. It has the smoked glass top which stows in rear; previous owner cracked one corner but his engineer son used some aerospace adhesive and the fix is solid and not normally noticed. I think the car was repainted sometime ago but there are some chips here and there. The automatic transmission has a minor leak from the front seal but the transmission has been very good and firm shifts. The seats are dried out and getting torn. The carpet is serviceable but in the rear hatch floor, sometime in the car's past, something spilled or melted the carpet in a small area. The throttle bracket on these cars is plastic and they sometimes break in autocross or racing. This one is broken but I have a new unit. If you autocross this, consider it a consumable part but they are simple to replace and not expensive. The car is at a good point of transition to being a racy car or restoration to original; you could go either way. The car smells fine and not like a mouse nest. Or, just put a long block in it and go for a cruise. The engine is the original L98 and the transmission is the original 700R-4.
I installed new:
* Timken heavy duty wheel bearings
* Prothane urethane bushing in the whole rear. The front was recently rebuilt and is tight. The front urethane bushing and tie rods and a set of ball joints go with the car.
* Top notch alignment via Cortney Trucking for autocross and stable enough to do a HPDE at Brainerd. The negative camber has run the inside of the tires down but I flipped them around and you should be able to get another summer out of them. I believe the settings was the front at 1/16th out, the rear at 1/16th in and all the negative camber we could get which was about 1 degree. I should have the printout for the alignment. The steering was quick without being twitchy and VERY neutral and manageable handling during testing at DCTC.
* TPIS fuel pressure regulator. The original leaked and the TPIS is adjustable and made noticeable gains.
* New TPI gaskets.
* New vacuum lines.
* New heavy duty drive shaft u-joints.
* Removed and clean radiator and high flow thermostat. It runs COOL.
* New door top window seals; one installed one not.
* Driver's door handle cracked but functions if you're careful. New door handle included but not installed.
* New windshield wiper motor control; needs new switch in door as function is intermittent. I never bothered with the door switch because the windshield is so raked that with some rain-x it stays amazingly clear even at parking lot speeds.
* New cat-back and Y section of the exhaust in 2015 but older "race" muffler tips. They are louder than stock but not intrusive or resonating in the cabin.
* New Curt hitch bolted in which I used for my bike rack. The bike rack is not included.
* New battery Aug 2019
