Vehicle Description
This 1959 Skyliner is a true gem. It was purchased in 2016 as a 30th anniversary gift for my husband and I to fulfill a long-time dream. Unfortunately, my husband's current disability has limited our ability to use the car so it is time for it to find a new home. We have put less than 100 miles on the car in the two years we have owned it. It had a frame-on restoration in the early 1990s. At that time, the engine was rebuilt, the transmission was gone through, and the seats were re-upholstered. The car was driven to car shows and cruise-ins for a few years, then parked in an open shed for almost twenty years as the owner had health issues. So the mileage after the restoration was minimal, surely less than 5000 miles. The front and rear bumpers were re-chromed in 2015. Rear shocks, new fuel pump and gas tank also were replaced at that time. The radio is missing, but there are two spare radios that come with the car. There is a new radiator (2015?) and rebuilt carburetor (2017) under the hood and the 352 engine runs remarkably well. There is a video (taken 10-20-18) of the engine idling on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/1959-Ford-Skyliner-2179986935384756/?modal=admin_todo_tour We installed a new battery 12-14-18. The exterior is original, and has obviously been garaged most of it's life. The original fender skirts are with the car (not shown in the photos, but in good shape). There are a few small chips where the paint is damaged and a couple where minor rust has started, but nothing significent. As you can see in the photos that were taken 11-20-18 the car is in great original condition. The tires are good, but I don't know how old they are so would recommend replacing before taking a road trip. The top was working when we purchased the car, but not flawlessly. So, we had a mechanic replace the Deck Lid Jacks and clean and grease the gear boxes throughout the top mechanisms. There is a video of the top operating on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/2179986935384756/videos/369908777116222/?modal=admin_todo_tour The video was taken 12-14-18. It would benefit from some additional tweaking/adjusting. There is a detailed manual of the retractable top included with the car. There are some extras that come with the car: New trunk liner (still in the box) Two fender skirts (very rare to have the original skirts in good shape!) Two spare radios Two spare instrument panels Two new exterior door handles All new set of dash knobs (nothing wrong with the original ones) Three large manuals as shown in the photos Planning diagrams/sketches (8 large heavy sheets) signed by Ben Smith who was the Ford engineer who designed the retractable hardtop) and authentication letter (see photos) As I said in the intro, this car truly is a gem. We would not be selling it if our circumstances hadn't changed. I am not mechanically savvy, so have consigned the car to a local dealer (Steve @ 605-892-6929) who can answer your questions and show you the car. Please visit the Facebook page dedicated to this car to see the videos of the engine running, the retractable top operating and plenty of photos of the exterior and interior. https://www.facebook.com/1959-Ford-Skyliner-2179986935384756/?modal=admin_todo_tour
