Vehicle Description
1984 Porsche 928S
Development started on the 928 reportedly back in the early 70's as slumping 911 sales, the oil embargo and sky rocketing fuel prices had Porsche thinking they should bring in a luxury GT car.
The powers that be wanted a powerful V8 (despite the oil situation) and that is what they got. By 1984, the 4.7L had grown in power to 234 HP.
Initially slow sales and a thorough disdain from 911/Porsche purists didn't seem to bode well for the 928 but it soldiered on for an 18 year run.
This car is believed to be a three owner car with only 79,618 miles on her.
Purchased originally in NJ and then moved to CT where the second owner had her. He apparently got sick and the car sat un-driven for over ten years. The current owner was contacted by the estate when the second owner passed away and he purchased the car in 2015. He promptly went through the car and did a complete fluid change, new timing belt, water pump, Griffin aluminum radiator and electric fan and new tires, BFG g-Force Sport comp-2's in 225/50/ZR16. He's only driven it a few hundred miles over these last few years so has decided it's time to part ways.
The car is super solid, no rust or rot and aside from the aforementioned, is all original.
With nearly 80K miles there are a couple of small nicks and chips, and the hood and mirrors show some very small stone chips. Some color sanding and polishing might make them less noticeable. The paint color is Platinum Metallic. It also appears as though someone bumped a curb with the front spoiler as one of the brackets and clips are a little buggered.
The brown leather interior is in very good condition again with the 79+ thousand miles showing some minor wear on "high touch" surfaces. Unfortunately, the gauge pod does have a crack running right down the center.
Overall, I'd put this car as a low 2, high three and with some attention to detail could move up significantly.
Listed factory options are: 220-Limited Slip differential; 418-side moldings; 438-8 way power seats; 481-5 speed manual transmission; 490-Sound system (this has been replaced with a Kenwood head) and 650-electric Sunroof. Interestingly, the car has a not often seen N21 set of red floor mats, but the code for them is not present.
The car has power, disc brakes; power steering; power windows; power locks; cruise control; remote mirrors; and AC (which isn't currently working, clutch doesn't kick on. that could be low freon or a power issue).
She runs and drives very well and the V8 sounds great as you rev up through the gears. The near 50/50 weight balance means a well behaved car that is loads of fun to drive.
Right now, not a concourse winner but an awesome, fun driver that could be show worthy with some attention to details.
Asking price on this Porsche is $22,000
