These Formula One inspired improvements included longitudinally mounting the engine to allow it to be centered lower in the car's chassis, while leaving the gearbox transversely mounted, hence the ""T"" format. The lower mounted drivetrain enhanced the handling of the car dramatically, while the additional space allowed for a larger 3.4L displacement V8 engine to be introduced which offered 300 horsepower!
