If you’re shopping for a Miata then I don’t need to tell you how much fun these cars offer. This 2000 Special Edition is no exception. This gorgeous car is loaded with great features and will have you smiling at every turn. I don’t think there is a more fun-per-dollar car out there.
Mazda built exactly 3,000 Special Edition Miatas for the 2000 model year. All of them were finished in Mahagony Mica with a Beige convertible soft top which makes for a great combination. This well-maintained southern example shows 79,000 miles from new. It is free of any rust issues and has a clean Autocheck report. The 15” polished aluminum wheels are in excellent condition, and the Hankook Ventus V2 tires only have 500 miles on them.
The drivetrain is all stock and starts with Mazda’s reliable 1.8L straight four. It is factory rated at 142 hp, which doesn’t sound like much until you consider the car only weighs 2,200 pounds! Note the timing belt and water pump have been replaced. The transmission is a 6-speed manual which was only available in the SE that year (all others were 5-speeds). Additional SE equipment includes a Torsen limited slip differential; a must for any serious Miata driver.
Like the convertible top, the beige leather interior offers an attractive blend with the exterior paint. The seats are in remarkable condition and very comfortable. In addition they provide an amazing amount of legroom for such a small car. The carpeting, door panels, and dash also look great. Interior highlights include the Nardi wooden steering wheel and Bose sound system, both features of the SE package. There is additional woodgrain trim on the center console, shift knob, and parking brake handle. You will also find power windows and cruise control which are not a given on Miatas from this era. Everything works properly including the air conditioning and power antenna.
There is a lot to like in this little package! Looks, performance, reliability, and of course fun. While this price point is inundated with boring vehicles in mediocre condition, this car is a breath of fresh air indeed. It’s everything a Miata should be.
