Vehicle Description
It's time for me to let her go...
I've owned this wonderful machine since 1999. She has been extremely reliable as a daily driver. The 1997 XJ was the last year Jaguar exclusively used their 4.0L, straight 6 engine. My Jag mechanic says it is one of the best engines Jaguar ever made.
This car would be best for someone wanting to spend the time and money to bring her back to pristine condition. The lines on the 1997 and 1998 Vandens are timeless and will ultimately become a classic for Jaguar. I get compliments on this car almost every time I drive it.
But, she needs work... I no longer have the time or energy to tackle the project.
I still drive her every day, but here is what needs to be done/list of problems:
* Leaks oil (probably head gasket)
* Rotational vibration (wheel bearings?)
* Some electrical snafu in the steering column that occasionally effects:
> Wipers
> Telescoping steering wheel
* Driver's seat leather is worn and torn
* Check engine light is on (most likely emission-related)
Those are the major issues. There are several minor ones (e.g., door dings and scratches)
Mechanically, the car still runs strong. Decent acceleration and smooth ride. This car purrs above 80mph. It's big and heavy and feels solid on the highway.
Serious inquiries ONLY. If you want a Jag just because you love the looks, pass on this one. But if you know what you want and you want to restore a classic-lines Jag, this would be a good start. The engines on these can go 300k miles according to one of the top, local Jag mechanics.
I would take the time to go through the car with you in extreme detail and point out everything I would do if I was keeping her. I also have all service records since I bought her in 2000.
