This super sweet sunset cruising car is a classic. Raving Reviews: 5 star rating on both cars.com and edmunds.com
This beauty is in good condition with no mechanical issues. See pictures for minor cosmetic damage; a few scratches and a small dent. The convertible top does not leak, but could use a patch on the backside. Brand new car battery installed this week.
Do note that this car does not feature a trunk. There are cubbies behind the seats and a small cubby in the front of the car that can be utilized as a small trunk or to carry a spare tire. I use it for my spare tire. I did install a silver rack on the back of the car, which not only looks super cool, but I've been able to strap luggage and a large bins (When I was moving).
This particular model features an electrohydraulically (fancy!) automated manual transmission. A six-speed manual in the MR2 Spyder that you shift using buttons on the steering wheel or by bumping the transmission selector on the center console, and without depressing a clutch pedal. Both controls initiate a sequence in which the throttle is closed, the clutch is disengaged, and the shift mechanism is activated. On downshifts — as in Ferrari's $155,000 360 Modena F1 — the system provides a blip of power to match engine and transmission speeds for seamless events.
The car is great fun to drive. You can brake deep into bends while pressing buttons for perfectly timed downshifts that match wheel and engine speeds exactly. It is also pretty cool to be able to sit in slow-moving traffic and have the hydraulic leg do all the clutch work. And.... of course, it's a convertible!
No doubt, I will miss this car. I used to do a lot of work between the Wineries in Napa & Sonoma. I loved cruising through the vineyards, top-down, jamming out to a good playlist. But life is different now; I just started an adventure company, and with that comes a need to own a larger 4x4 car with lots of trunk space
Logistics: I do have a membership at AAA, so we can take advantage of their expedited pink slip/car title transfer process. They have an office just half a mile from my home in Mill Valley. Payment must be with a cashier's check that goes through before we sign over the car. Or cash of course!
Come ride the Marin headlands in this convertible. You won't be disappointed!
*I recently replaced the bottom portion of one of the leather seats due to a tear. I still have the brand new leather pieces for the top portion and the full set for the other seat in case you're looking to replace them in the future. Free with purchase.
